Sapna Moudgil-Shah began crafting at the age of six, when she made her own sunglasses out of yellow paper and scotch tape. Sticking to her belief that “if you want something, you have to make it yourself,” she went on to experiment with fabric, yarn, paints, papers, and a wide variety of popsicle sticks.

After receiving a Bachelors in Computer Science from University of Michigan, Sapna spent several years in the IT industry as a developer and project manager. Unsatisfied with the challenges of the corporate world and wanting to devote more attention to her love of crafting, she decided to launch her own hand-crafted jewelry line, Sapni Apni.

Sapni Apni (pronounced sup-nee up-nee), is an affectionate nickname from childhood, loosely translated from Hindi to mean “My Sapna” or “My Dream.” Indeed, Sapna feels her jewelry line is a culmination of a lifelong dream to create and share her interpretations of color, texture, emotion, and balance in tangible form. She draws inspiration for her designs from her Indian heritage and the everyday beauty around her.

In order to make her dream a reality, Sapna enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City and holds an FIT certificate in Creative Enterprise Ownership. She credits her incredible teachers and classmates for their advice, inspiration, and constant support.

FIT supported the reality, but it is her husband who has always supported the dream. Without him, she would still be staring at boutique windows instead of going out and making her own jewelry.

Sapna lives in Manhattan with her husband, newborn baby, and cat. She can be contacted at sapna@sapniapni.com.
